It's that time of year again - So You Think You Can Write 2015. I had nothing to enter this year, but I remember the experience well. So instead of inviting you to read my entry, I'd like you to meet my good friend and exceptionally talented author, Elle Marlow. Elle's entry this year, Protecting the Cowboy's Baby, made the Top 55 as a semi-finalist and she needs votes, so if you like what you read below, please take time to visit the WattPad site and vote for her pitch. Click on the image below to go straight to WattPad. I took some time out this weekend to talk to Elle, to find out how she's feeling and to find out more about her SYTYCW 2015 entry Congratulations on your SYTYCW 2015 entry! How are you feeling? Thank you! Well, to be honest, I'm a pleasantly surprised. The competition is amazing this year. Not only is the quality sky high, but also these are some really, really kind and generous people giving of their time for others. I've never seen a year like this one where we all want each other to succeed. This is your third year running entering SYTYCW. Tell us about this year's entry, Protecting the Cowboy's Baby. Introduce us to Alana and Hayden. The story of Hayden and Alana came to me while I was trying to fall asleep. I was thinking about my other manuscript , High on the Mountain, and for some reason, this couple kinda butted in and demanded I listen. Since their conflict was much greater, they were hard to ignore. Hayden Courtland is a wealthy rancher and part of the Texas dynasty, The Courtlands. He literally grew up with a golden spoon in his mouth, a saddle under his butt and leather reins in his hands. He could've had anyone he wanted, but he fell in love with the outcast highschool Comanche girl with a big attitude and a penchant for running away from problems. Their love was highly passionate as they spent their time being stunt riders for western films, but it lacked something. Children. She couldn't seem to have them and she knew how important it was to the Courtlands that the family grow. That sparks all kinds of insecurities from her. Can you give us a snippet from the scene that you may have already written in your head, but maybe not on paper... The last time that Hayden saw Alana... Before the book begins... Hayden returns home to his ranch house expecting a hot meal and maybe even a warmer wife. There's a terrible storm outside and she's no where to be found. When he searches the barn he finds a horse loose and covered with mud and blood. His wife is gone without a trace but it doesn't take long to discover she ran off to Hollywood leaving him behind. What is keeping Hayden and Alana apart? Trust. She left him and now he doesn't trust her. There's also another man, another man that seems to have some kind of control. Alana was never a person that could be told what to do...so now he doesn't feel as if he knows her anymore. And what will bring them together? Love, Love and circumstances will clear this all up. Where did you get your inspiration from? I don't know. I think my muse is sort of like the Big Lebowski. A big ol stoned hippie who every now and then delivers me a good one. Why do you want to write for Harlequin? One reason. I want to walk into Walmart and show my kids a book on the shelf and say... "Hey, If I can do something this cool. You can do anything you want in life too." What will it mean to you to make Top 25? It would mean I'm on the right track with my dreams. It would mean that I have the ability to sweep people away into other worlds. I love that. Why should readers vote for you? Everyone is deserving. All these authors are great. I have a passion for romances that tell it like it is. I think some real to life heroes and heroines need their moment to shine. I'm grateful for the support and I wish all the contestants nothing but the best. Good luck, Elle. I know this is going to be your year. Please vote for the last cowboy in the contest. Join Wattpad and vote on the Pitch portion only. Let's get Elle Marlow to the top 25! To find out more about Elle and her books, be sure to visit her blog. Just click on Elle's picture.
