As you know, I entered SYTYCW 2013, my third year of doing so. The results for the next stage were due on Monday 14th and my day was spent checking my email, Harlequin boards, Facebook, Twitter. No results. I had no expectations of going through but as a writer, Hope is my middle name, but Patience isn't. It was Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving, so the Toronto office for Harlequin was closed.
Tuesday dawned and I was no better. I had my flu jab booked at the doctor's, so I took the opportunity to book a second appointment and see if they could tell me why I was feeling the way I was. After a brief examination, she had me take what i can only describe as sobriety tests, but she was checking my balance. Turns out I have something called Labyrinthitis - I'd never heard of it before, but was glad to know I had a name for my symptoms. Still nothing anywhere from SYTYCW, but the camaraderie and support from fellow entrants and fellow writers who didn't enter was phenomenal.
I went back to work on Wednesday, busy as usual, but when I came home, I found an email from SYTYCW. I opened it expecting the usual thanks but not thanks... but no! The first line read:
"Congratulations! We’re delighted to announce that your manuscript has been selected to advance to the next round in our So You Think You Can Write 2013."
So you can imagine my delight, shock, horror and complete amazement. Once again, support from everyone involved and supporting has been amazing. The rest of my week has been a mixture of panic, my day job, writing, family, friends, everything, and trying to cope with the dizziness from Labyrinthitis, but I'm nearly there.
The manuscript for SYTYCW is nearly there - just a few thousand more words to find - they are in my mind somewhere, it's just a matter of putting them in the write order (sorry, couldn't resist!), and then pressing send on that email.
I'll keep you posted on what happens with my entry Alex's Return - Secrets of St. Sebastian. You can click on the link to read it if you haven't already.
