I've entered So You Think You Can Write 2013, with my very nearly, but not quite, completed novel, Alex's Return - Secrets of St. Sebastian.
Lots of my fellow writers have also entered - at the last count (and those of you who know me well realise that math isn't my strong point) there are 430 some entries. I have read a few entries, specifically those I know, and the standard is very good, in my humble opinion. The elephant in the room, waiting for me to finish the book, has given up standing in the corner. It has taken to following me around the house, in the car, even to work. I keep expecting to come down in the morning and find it sitting at the dining room table, bashing the hell out of my keyboard, desperate to get the book finished. Now, I have two choices - I make time to finish it or I don't. Maybe another two choices - I am selfish and abandon my responsibilities or I don't. Possibly two further choices - I commit to following my dream or I don't. On paper/computer screen/phone/tablet, it looks pretty clear cut, but in reality, life does get in the way but so does the bloody elephant. Either way, the first stage of the competition - submission of first chapters - ends on Oct 9th. Let's see what the second stage brings - 50 full manuscripts are requested. Good luck to all my fellow entrants - and kick your own elephant into touch and get writing. Tx
