Italian AffairFree-spirited sex therapist Brianna Ballantine has four days to find a fiancé so she can inherit her birth mother’s Italian villa. Commitment is not on the agenda. Writing her sex therapy book and signing legal papers are. And once all is said and done, she’ll return home to Scotland. For finance guru Tomas Richards, relationships have been a bad investment—give him stocks and shares any day. When Tomas offers a marriage of convenience to help Brianna secure her inheritance, the sizzle between the sheets promises an affair to remember, despite family complications at every turn. But Tom must convince Brianna to stay, and make this Italian affair a lifelong commitment. Thanks for joining me today, Annie. I'm looking forward to talking to you about writing and your latest novel, Italian Affair, but first, let's find out more about you.
Annie on Annie What do you read? Romance, historical sagas, chick lit, women’s literature, non-fiction IN fact a bit of everything! What is your definition of romance? The anticipation and excitement of being attracted to another person. How do you unwind? Waling on the beach, digging in my garden or just sitting in the sun looking at the ocean How do you balance the writing ‘you’ with all the other ‘you’s? I don’t. At the moment, the writing me is about eighteen hours a day. I have had a few books contracted this year and needed to get them finished. Ina couple of weeks my husband is taking me on a seven week outback adventure.. but he has very kindly set up a special ‘thingy’ n the back of the car to charge my laptop. Partners/lovers aside, who would be your ultimate love? John of Gaunt in the fourteenth century! Which famous person did you have your first crush on? Davy Jones from the Monkees! Who do you find strangely attractive and why? Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) in the Harry Potter movies. His voice sends shivers down my spine What's your fave romantic movie/song/book? I love Something’s Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. Have you become more or less romantic as you grow older? More romantic. You really appreciate loving, and being loved the older you get. Where did you learn about love? In high school! What is the world's greatest love story in your opinion? Romeo and Juliet...loved the first movie. Annie on Writing Writer's block? Do you get it and how do you get over it? I don’t have time to get writer’s block as I have so many pressing deadlines. If I am struggling with a particular plot directions I will go for a walk on the beach or if it is at night, I spend a lot of time thinking about it as I go to sleep. The solution has often come to me in a dream The power of the subconscious! Ultimate story you'd like to write? A wide sweeping historical saga set in the South Pacific...one day! How do you balance the physical side of your characters relationship with the needs of the line you are targeting? Now that is a great question! I write across five lines for my publisher ranging from sweet, with closed door sex to steamy. I much prefer to use emotion to show the development of the relationship..but my editor is always telling me to steam it up! What do you do when a flash of inspiration hits you at an inopportune moment? I dictate it into my iPhone. Then the problem is remembering it is there! What and/or who inspired your wip/publication? The ocean...most of my books are set on, near or beside the ocean, sea, or a lake! Water is my element and inspires me and soothes my soul. When and where are you most productive when writing? From about 9am till 2pm... and then I edit as the tiredness sets in. How do you deal with the dreaded rejection? I am in the absolutely fortuitous position of not being rejected yet! I was lucky enough to get my first submission picked up. What was the name of the first story you ever wrote? Oh dear... it didn’t have a name... I was only eleven. When did you know that what you wrote was good? If you have been or are about to be published, how did you feel when you were offered a contract? Why do you write? It is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Now my day is not complete unless I write. Do your characters "tell" you what they want you to write? How? Oh yes. They are so naughty... I try to plan a book but as I write they take me places I never expected. The words just appear on the page and there is no conscious thought of getting them there. It is a bit like being in the ‘zone.’ Each author has a unique voice. How would you describe yours? I have had some lovely reviews where my writing as been described as lyrical and emotive. I was very happy with that. How do you deal with reviews that aren't as positive as others? Try not to let them get you down. You cannot please everybody as we are all different and bring different life experiences to our reading. How do you feel you add depth or layers to your story? I love writing setting. I think it is important for the reader to be able to visualise the setting. The other aspect that is very important to me is writing emotion. It is essential to me that the reader is able to immerse themselves in the lives of the characters, and to experience the full gamut of emotions that the character experiences throughout the development of the story What is the one thing you can't do without when writing? Coffeeeeeeeee. Tell us about your latest novel, Italian Affair. When is it out? Italian Affair was released on Monday 10 June. Describe your two main characters in 10 words each. Finance guru, dishy, stuffy, stitched-up, list-making Tom. Cool, funny, sexy, intelligent vulnerable Brianna. How long did it take you to write it? About three months Who is your publisher? Entangled Publishing What attracted you to them? I have been with Entangled publishing for about eighteen months and have seen them grow into a phenomenal force in the publishing world. I had heard great things about them and they have fulfilled every expectation and more! What's next? I currently have three books in edits for release late this year. Outback Affair, Dangerous Desire and Worth the Wait. I am currently writing Hot Rock... a time slip novel about a rock star! Wow, you're one busy lady. Good luck with Italian Affair and thanks once again for joining me today.
